Teaching

I teach one day and one evening a week at the Julian Ashton Art School, 117 George Street,
The Rocks, Sydney.

Mondays 9:15am to 3:30pm & Friday evenings 4:00pm to 9:00pm.

The Julian Ashton Art School, founded in 1890, is a rare place that cultivates the realist tradition
in art. I have an innovative approach to teaching classical skills, that ensures both visual
accuracy and the creative freedom you need as an artist. I teach everyone individually so you
may take whichever subject you wish at whatever time you wish, no matter what your level of
experience.

My subjects are drawing, oil painting and modelling in oil clay, at any level from complete
beginners to advanced. Enrolment details and a general school brochure including a
downloadable enrolment form, are available from www.julianashtonartschool.com.au
My clay modelling course is not a full sculpture course but mainly an aid to understanding figure construction, with benefits for drawing and painting. Working from plaster casts, anatomical references and from life, modelling the figure in clay provides an intensive study from every conceivable point of view and carries the Ashton's tradition of fine draughtsmanship into three dimensions. School facilities don't allow for mould making and casting of finished work, or for storage of life size pieces, except for portrait busts. If you wish to make permanent casts of your work I can advise you on how to do so in your own time.
If you live in Sydney and would like to discuss my classes with me before enrolling, feel free
to visit the school during my teaching hours. The office staff will be able to help at other times.
Please note: if you wish to telephone the school, it's best to call between 9:15 am and 1pm,
Monday to Friday, or Saturday from 10am til 1pm. Alternatively you can e-mail me with your enquiry:
